General questions
How is the quality of your products?
We use the highest quality stones for all of our products. We combine the latest cutting technologies with the old world methods. Our artisans and craftsman are among the best in the world, resulting in products as good or better then any you will find in tile or other fine stores.
Your prices are significantly lower then other retail stores, why?
Simple, our overhead is low, so we can pass on the savings to you. Also, the internet and new cutting technologies have allowed us to streamline our processes. We do not have the many layers typically found in the supply chain of other companies manufacturing these types of products. We always try to cut out the middle man.

Product related questions
What type of stone is used with your products?
We use marble, travertine, granite, and onyx. Slate is not typical, but can also be used.
What is the thickness of the stone products?
3/8" and 1/2" are by far the most popular thicknesses. However, some of the mosaics can be done in 1/4". Please read the details page to find the thickness of the product you are interested in.
Does the stone come polished or honed?
We have both polished and honed products. If you would like a particuliar finish, please let us know and we can do that for you.
Do the items come as one piece or many separate pieces?
95% of our products come as one piece, unless specified on the items details page. This makes installation much easier. The exception are some of the very large items that must be in multiple section for storage and freight purposes. These products will come together seamlessly during installation.
What kind of backing is used for the products?
The mosaics are glued to fiberglass mesh and the waterjet cut products are generally placed on a solid honeycomb backing.
How long will these products last?
As 16th Century Italian Artist Giorgio Vasari wrote: "Mosaic is the most durable picture that exists. Other paintings fade with time, but mosaic continually brightens with age". This applies to all of our products. They will last centuries.
Is it possible to get stone samples?
We generally do not send stone samples. However, we do occasionally make exceptions. Please check our Materials and Colors page for more details. If you still require samples please contact us.

Design questions
I need a specific size, can you do this?
We can customize almost any product to your exact specifications. Please contact us with your specific size needs.
What thickness is correct for my application?
This is a combination of the thickness of your existing or new tile and the amount of thinset used by the installers. For example, a 3/8" thick medallion can easily go in a floor with 3/8" or 1/2" tile. It can even be put in a 1/4" floor if the installers raise the tile slightly with extra thinset. This is a very common scenario. The hardest installation, for obvious reasons, would be a 1/2" thick medallion in a 1/4" tile floor. We have seen this also done, if the tile is built up with enough thinset. Please consult your installers or give us a call about your specific scenario.
Can I send you my tile to use for the creation?
No. We use slabs to create our medallions. However, you can send us your tile so we can compare the color to the product/s you are interested in. We would be happy to take pictures for you.
Can I mix and match your designs?
Yes. We understand that at times our clients will love most parts of a particuliar design, but would like to change a small portion of it. We will work with you to get any design just right. Custom fees apply.
Yes, you can submit your own designs or if you see a design you like elsewhere, take a picture and we will create it. Note: We will not be able to reproduce original copyright designs. However, we can modify the design to your liking.Custom fees apply.
Are there additional costs for custom work?
Yes. Depending on the complexity of the design, size, and stone used. 20% - 30% above the in stock price is generally accurate. For an exact quote, please contact us.
How long will it take to receive my custom item?
Custom mosaic items, 2 - 3 weeks. Custom waterjet items, 4 - 6 weeks.
For the mosaics, what is the difference between tumbled and standard?
Standard mosaic pieces are hand cut from marble and then installed into the design. The edges are crisp and clean. Tumbled mosaic pieces, after being cut, are placed into a special machine called a tumbler. This gives the tumbled stone an aged look and a warmer tone, with rounded off edges and corners. Please see our materials and colors page for pictures.

Can your consultants help me with color and design choices?

Installation and care
What are the general steps in the installation process of a floor medallion?
1. Install your existing floor in its entirety.
2. Take your new medallion and place on the floor in the exact spot you want it to be installed. Trace the outside of the medallion with a heavy pencil.
3. Remove the medallion from the installation area.
4. Use an angle grinder with a diamond round blade to cut out the area. Follow the traced line carefully until you have penetrated through the thickness of the existing tile.
5. Using a hammer and hand pick, break out the unneeded tile and thin set. After the tile is broken up, clean the area with a hand broom.
6. Carefully place the medallion back in the cut area to make sure it fits perfectly and then remove again.
7. Trowel thin set into area with the appropriate thickness. If you do not know how much to use, it is best to fill the entire area completely with thin set. Make sure you have a nice level surface that is flush with your existing tile floor.
8. Using two people, carefully lower the medallion into the thin set. Excess thin set will come out the sides, clean as needed. Finally, use your hands and a level to make sure the medallion is flat and flush.
9. Let the thin set harden for 12 - 24 hours before grouting.
10. Grout your medallion using a hand trowel and a wet sponge.
11. Thoroughly clean your medallion.
12. Apply your stone sealer.
Yes, if you have the correct tools. It really is pretty easy with the right instructions. Go for it!
